Indigo Cloth

Mali

While on assignment to create these iconic images of the indigo fabric designers and cloth makers of Bamako our creative director, Cathy spotted the abundance of bright yellow all around the city. “Thinking on my feet and making a visual essay out of what I find is my favourite way to shoot - it makes for a much more alluring and relevant image. But nothing prepared me for the entrancing few seconds of magic when the indigo dye turns the cloth a yellow green before it turns blue - something no one has been able to stop or capture. I was thrilled to learn a little while later that The Conran Shop in London was inspired by these images to create a seasonal campaign using the indigo and yellow.
