Textile Observations, Ethiopia

On a mentoring trip to a local silk company Cathy became fascinated with the ancient and modern use of the finely woven cloths of Ethiopia, both in everyday and ceremonial use, such as at the Coptic Christian Timket parades she witnessed while there. “I felt I was seeing a country undergoing a major transformation with its biblical style landscape and people swathed in fine muslins and cotton to a rapidly growing modern urban society. And it was fascinating to see the creativity of early adopters of urban style - that transformation is something that always fascinates me.
