Furniture Maker, Babacar Niang

Senegal

Seeing a great artist in their own space is a rare privilege as Cathy and David had while recording the extraordinary work of the late artist, designer Babacar Niang, in Dakar. Each piece, created from found wood, metal or leather has a uniquely anthropomorphic style and a deep spiritual presence. The team was there to create a visual provenance before his much-acclaimed solo exhibition in New York - an exhibition he tragically did not live to see. “Babacar showed us his home city with such pride and the special day we spent with him on Goree Island which ended with us all dancing to Youssou N’Dour, will always stay dear in my heart.”
